Dr. Sayan Banerjee is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Reuters Institute working on the Trust in News Project. His research interests are in the area of misinformation and political communication, political behaviour, ethnic politics, and South Asian politics and media.
Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Deliberative Media Lab (part of the Democracy Initiative) at the University of Virginia. He holds a Ph.D. in Government from the University of Essex.
Sayan's current research consists of three interlinked pathways. One track investigates the causal effects of Misinformation on intergroup relations and political behavior in diverse societies. The second path studies how social capital and residential segregation along ethnic and racial lines informs belief in (mis)information, which, in turn, influences political behavior and attitudes towards identity outgroups. The third lane studies the behavioral determinants and mechanisms behind women’s political representation in South Asia.
