Our annual report is published in a pivotal year for democracies worldwide, with more than 50 general elections taking place. Attacks on the press have been relentless, especially in Gaza, where more than 100 journalists and media workers have been killed. Natural disasters continue to remind us of the impact of the climate crisis and the importance of journalists covering it in a way that's accurate, engaging and explanatory.
But press freedom and climate journalism are not the only issues we've covered this year. Our journalists and researchers have explored the rise of generative AI in media and society, and the challenges and opportunities it presents for the news industry. They have also looked at issues such as news avoidance, visual platforms and news influencers. Our annual report outlines our work for the year, highlighting our research, leadership development, fellowship programs, climate network, original journalism and more.
