What I do

I pitch, report and write articles on the future of journalism worldwide and occasionally work with the Institute’s research team. I assist in editing pieces by my colleagues and freelance contributors. I also co-author our daily roundup and flagship newsletter with other members of the editorial team.

My day-to-day work involves staying up-to-date with media news, interviewing key players and innovators, and reading as much as possible. Since early 2023, I’ve taken a particular interest in the emerging role of AI in the news industry, collaborating with research colleagues on a factsheet about how chatbots respond when asked for news, and writing numerous articles on this topic. I’ve carried out and documented my own experimentation with AI tools, attended and reported on key industry conferences, and interviewed the journalists at the forefront of media AI applications.

I’m based in Oxford, but I have leveraged my connections to Italy and Germany to explore media issues in those countries, and I’ve reported on stories from around the world, including Ukraine, Gaza, Qatar, and the Amazon rainforest. As well as AI, I’ve written about conflict reporting, the surveillance of journalists, and how news outlets are innovating to reach young audiences. I’ve interviewed AFP global news director Phil Chetwynd, misinformation expert Nina Jankowicz, author and AI reporter Karen Hao, and a leading Vaticanista, among many others.

My background

Before I came to the Reuters Institute, I completed a gold standard diploma in journalism awarded by the UK’s National Council for the Training of Journalists. Between 2017 and 2020, I earned a bachelor's degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Oxford. While I was carrying out my training in London, I reported on stories local to the area I was living in, including on insufficient public services, community outreach programs and issues with transport.

I did a stint in Politico Europe’s Brussels newsroom in the spring of 2021, where I reported on breaking news from all over Europe, as well as EU institutions, and authored a daily newsletter on the latest COVID-19 news. My first work experience was in Reuters’ Berlin newsroom in 2015.

Journalistic ethics

As the rest of the editorial team, I am committed to the Reuters trust principles and Reuters standards and values. I also align my personal journalistic ethics with the Editors’ Code of Practice issued by IPSO, a UK independent journalism watchdog. The Reuters Institute is not regulated by IPSO, but I find the Code a clear guide for all journalists to maintain ethical boundaries. I will always protect a confidential source and be forthcoming and honest with anyone I speak with. I try my best to approach all stories with an open mind, and I will always strive to represent interviewees’ views as faithfully as possible. I am deeply committed to accuracy, and I am always open to corrections when they are required.
