What I do
I am a digital journalist with the Reuters Institute's editorial team, mainly focusing on reporting and writing pieces on the state of journalism today. Additionally, I help manage the Institute’s digital channels, including our daily roundup, several newsletters and our social media accounts.
Being originally from Panama, I have reported extensively on the Latin American region, but I have also reported on stories from around the world from Gaza to Africa to Canada. My main interests lie on platforms, tech accountability, the intersection of international relations and the media, and labour issues. I've written about AI accessibility, news influencers, and the socio-political influence of journalism. I've also produced a five-episode podcast series on AI and journalism for the Institute's podcast channel, interviewing many AI leaders in the field.
My background
Before I came to the Reuters Institute, I worked as daily news reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in Montreal mainly focusing on radio.
I hold a BA Hons degree in International Development from McGill University and an MSc in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford.
Journalistic ethics
I hold myself to the highest standards of fairness, accuracy, and transparency in my work. Like my colleagues, I adhere to the Reuters trust principles and Reuters standards and values. I strive to approach every story with empathy and curiosity, ensuring that diverse perspectives are heard and represented with care, as well as providing a rich snapshot of journalism worldwide outside of the Global North. Protecting sources, being accountable for errors, and maintaining public trust are central to my practice as a journalist.
