RISJ Annual Report 2018-19
2018–19 was a difficult year for journalism around the world. News organisations struggled to adapt to a challenging media landscape and journalists came under attack in countries like Hungary, Nicaragua and the Philippines. This Annual Report gives an overview of our work to engage with the industry and provide research and evidence to understand those changes, both in news production and consumption. The report covers our collaboration with 21 journalist fellows from 20 different countries, as well as 34 journalists who attended our first Summer Schools. It also features our 20 publications including the Digital News Report 2019, which polled 75,000 people across 39 markets, including South Africa for the first time.
