Joshua Ogawa.

Joshua Ogawa, Head of AI and Visual Strategy at Nikkei's Editorial Division, has joined the Advisory Board of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. His appointment will expand the geographical reach of the board and provide expertise on one of the most important issues facing the news industry right now.

The Reuters Institute's Advisory Board meets once a year in Oxford and includes prominent figures from journalism, technology and academia from 12 countries around the world. Board members provide valuable insight and suggestions for our work.

In his current role Head of AI and Visual Strategy at Nikkei's Editorial Division, Ogawa spearheads efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into newsroom workflows and storytelling. Before this role, he was General Manager, Nikkei-FT Partnership at Nikkei Europe, where he was in charge of day-to-day collaboration between Nikkei and the Financial Times, which the Japanese news organisation acquired in 2015.

During this time, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Reuters Institute, where he worked on ways to build a successful media partnership through merger and acquisition, and how to manage change and culture over time.

Before taking on that role in 2018, he spent over 20 years in the Nikkei newsroom as a media and technology reporter, including a 7-year deployment in the US, first as a Chief Correspondent in New York and later as Silicon Valley Bureau Chief.
