Vanessa Wiltshire

Vanessa Wiltshire is a journalist, producer and researcher with 20 years’ experience in television, radio and digital platforms across the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and commercial media.

Vanessa is based in Brisbane as a researcher for the ABC’s "Australian Story", a critically acclaimed weekly half-hour documentary program profiling extraordinary Australians.

Previously, she was attached to ABC’s News Digital projects including “Vote Compass” working with Vox Pop labs and the team commissioning reports and regional content through the 2016 Australian Federal Election.

Vanessa has a keen interest in the importance of local journalism and community engagement. She initially joined ABC Brisbane Radio as a senior studio producer generating story segments for the Mornings and Drive programs. For six years, she was Content Director for the station providing daily editorial leadership for 20 presenters and producers attached to both local and national radio programs. During that period her focus included daily news, current affairs, features, entertainment, and special broadcasting during state elections, events including the G20 and natural disasters.

Roles prior to joining the ABC include Corporate Relations Manager at Australian Red Cross, Researcher/Producer at Channel 7’s “Today Tonight” and newsreader/journalist at Brisbane radio station 4KQ and Wollongong’s i98fm. Vanessa also has freelance experience across a number of platforms in journalism, marketing and communications.

Vanessa holds a Bachelor of Business-Communication from the Qld University of Technology and Diploma of Management from the University of New England.

She is the 2018 recipient of the ABC’s Donald McDonald Scholarship.
