Shazia Majid is a Norwegian journalist based in Oslo. She is a senior investigative reporter at VG, Norway’s largest daily newspaper, where she has also been an op-ed columnist. She has worked extensively within data-driven business journalism exploring the intersection of public funding and private companies, and has won the SKUP Award for excellence in investigative journalism in both 2017 and 2018.
In 2019, her first non-fiction book, Ut av skyggene (Stepping Out of the Shadows), was shortlisted for Norway’s most prestigious literary prize, Brageprisen. The widely acclaimed book is the first to tell the comprehensive story of the first immigrant women of colour in Norway.
Majid was born and raised in Norway by parents of Pakistani origin. She holds a degree in business administration, as well as a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Oslo Metropolitan University.
Her research at the Reuters Institute will focus on how the Norwegian media depicts minority women of colour in their coverage.
