Mark Corcoran
Senior Producer, ABC
During his 20-year association with ABC-TV Australia’s international current affairs program Foreign Correspondent, Mark Corcoran has been a reporter, producer, executive producer and presenter.
From 2001-10 he reported extensively on the social, security and political upheavals triggered by the 9/11 attacks and Washington's declared 'Global War on Terrorism', from Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Middle East, Europe and the US.
In 2012-14 Mark led the ABC’s innovative Drone/Remotely Piloted Aircraft research program, investigating news-gathering capabilities of this emerging technology and potential applications as a safety tool on high risk assignments.
He worked closely with the aviation industry and government in developing regulations for media use.
His awards as reporter or producer include two national Walkley Awards for International Journalism, a Walkley High Commendation for his reporting from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, the TV industry Logie Award for Most Outstanding Public Affairs Report 2009, four Gold Medals from the New York International TV Festival, the 2002 Reuters-Mohammed Amin Award for international reporting, the United Nations Association Environmental Reporting Award.
Mark holds an MA(Research) from the University of Technology, Sydney and was a Visiting Fellow, UTS, 2012-13.
