Hiba Yazbek

Freelance Journalist

Hiba Yazbek is a Palestinian journalist with an M.S. degree from Columbia Journalism School. She most recently assisted the New York Times on The Civilian Casualty Files: a three-part investigation that exposes the flawed American air war against ISIS and its heavy civilian toll. After the fellowship, Yazbek will be joining the NYTimes Jerusalem bureau as a research and reporting assistant.

Previously, Hiba worked at Haaretz.com in Tel Aviv as a news and features desk editor, where she started as an intern. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Communications and English Literature from Tel Aviv University and is a 2021 recipient of the White House Correspondents' Association Fellowship, and a member of the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association.

Hiba was born and raised in Nazareth and is fluent in Arabic, English, and Hebrew. At the Reuters Institute, Yazbek will be exploring the impact of citizen journalism in Palestine and its role in shaping global media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, focusing on the events of last May.
