Despina Trivolis

Journalist, content and social media editor specialising in digital media

Despina Trivolis has been working as a journalist for 10 years in both Athens and London. She started work as a researcher at Guardian Films, the Guardian's multimedia investigation unit. She continued her career in Athens working as a print journalist for LIFO (an influential weekly Athenian magazine specializing in arts and culture, books, politics and urban reporting), progressing to editorial director of www.lifo.gr overseeing the re-launch of the website as well as the brand's social media, and eventually moving to editorial director of the magazine’s print edition.

Despina made a name for herself as a social issues reporter: some of the issues she has researched include the rapid decline of downtown Athens, the rise of the "neo-homeless" and the vast child-begging ring in the streets of urban Greek cities. She also specializes in cultural reporting especially long format interviews and profiles having interviewed everyone from famous intellectuals to Nobel Laureates including John Banville, Bernard Henri Levy, Hilary Mantel and Orhan Pamuk.

She is particularly interested in digital experimentation and new media having worked as a social media and content editor for a number of projects, has briefly worked as a food correspondent for www.culinarybackstreets.com and the Guardian travel network, and is currently a contributor to VIMAgazino the Sunday supplement magazine of Greece's best –selling newspaper.

She holds an MA in International Relations and English Literature from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, and an MA in International Journalism from City University in London.
