Clara Lock
As Travel Correspondent for The Straits Times, Clara Lock reports on local and international travel trends, and unearths tips to help readers travel better. She has written about destinations such as North Korea, Bhutan, Morocco and Uzbekistan.
Her best performing story was a feature on her own wedding, after she proposed to her husband and wed in a tiny ceremony in the Canadian Rockies. Beyond the travel story, readers were enticed because it bucked the trend – of wedding rituals, of men proposing, of the belief that getting married in Singapore has to look a certain way.
Adept at both feature writing and op-eds, Clara views travel and lifestyle journalism as a conduit to explore socio-cultural issues such as geopolitics, sustainability, gender and cost of living.
She is the author of Stay Gold: An Almost Healthy Boy In A Mostly Healthy World, a biography of her late best friend. Before joining The Straits Times, she was the editor of the Republic of Singapore Navy magazine, where she spent many happy days at sea.
