Abu Sayeed Asiful Islam
Asif is associate editor at the Dhaka Tribune, an English-language national daily broadsheet.
He has spent most of two decades working as a journalist covering Bangladesh for the world, and the world for Bangladesh. He has reported live for MSNBC and CBS News, been a guest commentator for NDTV and the Times of India podcast and written for the Mekong Review. Asif has a special interest in exploring ways to improve the coverage of complex issues. Previously, Asif led his newsroom's coverage of the Rohingya crisis, human trafficking and people smuggling, and terrorism. He reported on the 2016 presidential elections for his paper from the US.
Asif enjoys conducting interviews and writing profiles. He recently interviewed Ted Kennedy Jr and Ukrainian foreign policy adviser Svitlana Zalishchuk.
He is passionate about climate journalism and was a member of the inaugural cohort of the Oxford Climate Journalism Network. In 2015, he interviewed Sir David King, then UK special representative for climate change.
Asif is a Bangladeshi national but was born and raised in Manila and attended Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA.
