Vacancy at RISJ: Part time Research Officer

The Reuters Institute is looking for a Part-time Research Officer (12 month contract) to generate up-to-date news and analysis of key developments in journalism in the non-US English speaking regions of the world for a new website, and to be English language coordinator of content generated by partner journalism websites in Eastern Europe. The website will generate new information about major trends and developments in journalism.This enterprise is largely funded by a grant from the Bosch Foundation, Germany and is part of a collaboration bewteen the Reuters Institute and the European Journalism Observatory. You will hold a degree and ideally postgraduate qualification in communications, media, journalism, social sciences or humanities and have excellent research skills. Knowledge of research, literature and debate on trends in journalism and news media is essential as are excellent analytical skills.  You should be able to distil information rapidly from a wide range of sources and use initiative in writing, research and collaboration with other partners. You will need excellent written and verbal English language skills and potential to write at an international level. Ideally you will have a strong relevant publication record, research experience and an interest in international comparative research that bridges the academic and policy communities. Experience of writing for the web and keeping websites and blogs up-to-date would be beneficial. Office space and facilities will be provided at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at 13 Norham Gardens, Oxford. This post provides an excellent opportunity for a journalist or academic from a communication studies background in this field to work with a small team at the Reuters Institute and with leading international experts in the field.
