This year's Digital News Report, published on 17 June. 

Our Digital News Report 2025 was published on 17 June and presented at several regional events. Authored by Nic Newman, Richard Fletcher, Rasmus Nielsen, Amy Ross Arguedas and Craig T. Robertson, this year’s report is based on almost 100,000 interviews with online news consumers and covers 48 markets, including Serbia for the first time.

This year's key themes

The report includes findings on local news, misinformation, the changing face of podcasting, the rise of news influencers and people’s attitudes towards personalisation, generative AI and mobile news alerts. It also includes data on trust in news and news avoidance, details about news use on different digital platforms, and insights from markets in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. 

Two in-person launch events

Our global launch. An in-person event at Reuters HQ in London. A presentation by lead author Nic Newman was followed by a panel discussion hosted by our Director, Mitali Mukherjee, featuring David Rhodes from Sky News, Basia Cummings from the Observer and Jane Barrett from Reuters.


Our US launch. An in-person launch at Reuters HQ in New York. A presentation by co-authors Richard Fletcher and Rasmus Nielsen will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Carolyn Ryan from the New York Times, Kevin Ponniah from BBC News and Sally Buzbee from Reuters.

Three more online events

Our Africa launch. An online launch event with a focus on Africa in partnership with our friends at Code for Africa. A presentation by lead author Nic Newman will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Ajibola Amzat from the Centre for Collaborative Investigative Journalism, Justine Wanda from Fake Woke and Jillian Green from the Daily Maverick.


Our Asia launch. A presentation by our Director of Research, Richard Fletcher, followed by a panel discussion hosted by our Head of Editorial, Eduardo Suárez, featuring Professor Janet Steele, CPJ Asia-Pacific director Beh Lih Yi and Joshua Ogawa from Nikkei.


Our India launch. An online launch event with a focus on India in partnership with Newslaundry. After a short presentation by Nic Newman, our Director, Mitali Mukherjee, will host a conversation featuring our own Journalist Fellow Sannuta Raghu, Ritvvij Parrikh from Times Internet and news influencer Akash Banerjee. 

An event in Spanish

Our Latin America launch. At the end of July co-author Amy Ross Arguedas will present the report at Festival Gabo, the most important journalism festival in Latin America. The report has been translated into Spanish by Argentinian journalist Abel Escudero Zadrayec and will be published in this language as well. | Part of Festival Gabo
