I am a radio producer and reporter, with long experience as a feature writer too. For the last decade I have worked mainly for the BBC's solutions-focussed programme People Fixing the World, which looks at global projects that address challenges in education, healthcare and the environment. I have travelled a lot for this series, producing videos and text features as well as radio.
I have two children; my son is autistic, and my daughter has profound and multiple learning disabilities. I help run the carers' staff network for the BBC and my work often focuses on disability and social issues affecting disabled people.
I believe that people with intellectual disabilities should have access to reliable news that they can understand. I recently oversaw the production of "easy news" bulletins for the BBC, piloting formats in video, text and social media. At the Reuters Institute I will extend this work by exploring ways in which non-disabled journalists and people with a learning disability might work together to create news.
William's fellowship is sponsored by the BBC.
