Zach Seward
Zach Seward is a journalist and media entrepreneur. In 2023, he was appointed the New York Times' Editorial Director of A.I. Initiatives where he experiments with generative AI and other machine-learning techniques. In 2012, he co-founded business news organisation Quartz where he held a variety of roles for more than 11 years, including as CEO, editor in chief, chief product officer and, from 2020 to 2022, its co-owner. During his time at Quartz, the outlet won two general-excellence awards from the Online News Association, world's best website from the Society for News Design, and Apple's best apps of the year.
Prior to Quartz Seward was a reporter and editor at The Wall Street Journal and an associate editor of Harvard's Nieman Journalism Lab. Seward has received many industry honours, including the Crain's 40 Under 40 in New York business, Forbes 30 Under 30 in media and Folio 100 (in 2014, 2016, and 2019), and Digiday Changemakers. His own reporting has been recognised by the National Awards for Education Reporting and Mirror Awards for media reporting.
