Yip Wai Yee
Yip Wai Yee has been working as a journalist for the past 14 years. She began working at Singapore's English-language daily The Straits Times as the paper's entertainment correspondent, where she reviewed films and spoke to some of the world's biggest names in film and television. Later, she had a stint at the paper's technology desk, where she covered how advances in tech reshaped industries and influenced every part of our daily lives.
Wai Yee then joined BBC News, where she wrote about trending news with a focus on East Asia, on top of managing the company's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.
In 2022, she returned to The Straits Times for the position of Taiwan Correspondent, and has been based in Taipei ever since, covering politics, the economy and social issues. While cross-strait relations make up the bulk of her day-to-day reporting, Wai Yee also hopes to tell stories of Taiwan that go beyond the context of geopolitical tensions.
Her project at the institute will look at the treatment of journalists' fixers in Taiwan.
