Magdalene Fung
Magdalene has worked for the Straits Times since 2020, most recently serving as their award-winning Hong Kong correspondent. Before starting work at the ST, she was a markets editor at Bloomberg and a China news editor at the South China Morning Post.

Magdalene Fung is Hong Kong correspondent with Singapore's flagship newspaper The Straits Times. She has been with the English-language broadsheet since 2020 and was previously deputy foreign editor managing daily newsroom operations and producing in-depth features and data-driven graphics covering topics including the Ukraine war, the Covid-19 pandemic and “invisible” communities across Asia.

She was also a markets editor at Bloomberg and a China news editor at the South China Morning Post. She has covered areas ranging from geopolitics, society and science, to finance, with a focus on the greater China region. Her projects have picked up multiple global accolades, including a Human Rights Press Award.

During her time at the Reuters Institute she will explore the erosion of press freedom in Hong Kong.
