Lim Yan Liang is a Singaporean journalist with The Straits Times, the city-state's daily broadsheet. He joined the newsroom in 2011, and has experience covering beats such as crime and courts, technology, defence, and politics. He was the newspaper's China correspondent for three years until 2020, and covered key political events such as the CPC's 19th Party Congress, and the annual Two Meetings. Since his return to Singapore, he has led a team of 12 reporters covering Singapore's politics, as well as its education, defence, and community sectors.
His project, A blueprint for community-driven journalism, will look at how different media organisations are evolving to better cater to their audiences, and how newsroom managers are driving community partnerships while preserving traditional editorial judgement. When not working with words, he enjoys science fiction and books on history.
Yan Liang's sponsor is SPH Media.
