Katharina Schell

Deputy Editor-in-Chief, APA

Katharina Schell is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Austrian news agency APA and represents the editorial team in the company's "Trusted AI" unit. Her work focuses on digital innovation, AI in journalism and communication as well as data journalism. She is also in charge of the editorial team's software development projects. 

From 2008 to 2016, she was head of the politics department at APA. Prior to that, she was media editor for APA for many years and deputy head of the culture department at the newspaper Kurier. Schell is Vice President of the Concordia Press Club and member of the Austrian Press Council. 

Her publications and lectures cover a wide range of topics from digital disinformation and fake news, AI strategy and AI literacy to practical applications of AI in journalism. Katharina has a degree in Scandinavian and German literature.

Her project will explore how newsrooms can be transparent when adopting generative AI tools.
