Jess has spent the past decade in public broadcasting, beginning her career in radio and long-form documentaries.
Australia's devastating Black Summer bushfires were a turning point in her reporting. Seeing the scale of destruction reshaped her focus toward climate change and its practical consequences. Since then, she has covered climate policy, the energy transition, natural disasters, politics and misinformation, focusing on how global climate forces translate into impacts on communities, economies and institutions.
Jess is interested in how public broadcasters can report on climate change in a way that is rigorous, clear and impactful, without defaulting to despair. As a reporter on the ABC’s specialist climate team, she has seen how dedicated time and editorial focus can strengthen coverage. She believes depth, context and accountability are essential to reporting on a story of this scale.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has generously sponsored Jess's fellowship.
