Hideki Mushiake
Hideki Mushiake is an Executive Reporter and leads 25 journalists of Science Division as vice head in Japan Broadcasting Corporation NHK.
His first work as journalist is coverage on the Chernobyl disaster. Since 1991, Hideki started to visit Kiev to investigate actual condition of Chernobyl disaster with interviewing victims in the contaminated area, leucemia specialists, congressmen and nuclear scientists.
In 1994, Hideki entered NHK to start career as TV journalist. He has visited 18 countries including US, China, Mexico and several European and South Asian countries. He's produced more than 50 documentary programs on issues such as emerging infectious diseases, gene manipulation, research fraud and renewable energy. He has published three books.
One of his documentary programmes won an Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Award and was a finalist for the International Emmy Awards. Since 2003, his series of documentary programmes on emerging virus has pushed Japan to prepared for a pandemic. After the COVID-19 pandemic started, he had appeared as an anchorman in six special programmes watched by around 10 million people. He discussed how Japan should fight against COVID-19 with top scientists who lead governmental committees.
