Barbara Štrbac began her journalism career in 1999 at the local TV station Kanal Ri in Rijeka. She spent five years at Croatian public broadcaster HRT, before joining Nova TV's news team 2010, where she has become a key journalist known for her work in breaking news and crisis reporting.
Over the years, Barbara has reported from the front lines of major global and regional events. She covered the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Turkey, reported on Ukrainian refugees in Moldova, and followed the refugee crisis in 2015. She also covered the crash of a military drone in Poland and tragic mass shootings in Serbia, along with numerous floods and wildfires in Croatia and abroad.
Barbara was on the ground for some of the most significant global stories in recent years, such as the death of Queen Elizabeth, the passing of Pope Francis and the election of Pope Leo XIV, as well as Finland's entry into NATO.
Outside the newsroom, sport and environmental activism play a big role in her life. She regularly competes in the World Ski Championships for Journalists - winning multiple medals. As an avid diver, she also takes part in marine clean-up efforts whenever possible.
Barbara's fellowship is sponsored by United Media.
