Surviving the cash crunch: Bhekisisa's road to non-profit health and social justice journalism

Mia Malan is the founding director and editor of the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism in South Africa which syndicates health and social justice features and analysis to the country's leading publications. She heads up a team of fifteen permanent and freelance staff members. In this talk she discusses how Bhekisisa went from being a section desk at South Africa's Mail & Guardian to becoming a news outlet in its own right distributing its articles through other major outlets worldwide. She talks about the impact of Bhekisisa's work and its efforts to remain sustainable.
