Dr Alexandra Borchardt named Senior Research Associate of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism

Alexandra BorchardtThe Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism’s Director of Leadership Programmes, Alexandra Borchardt, will continue as a Senior Research Associate of the institute, as she is leaving Oxford University after two years.

“Alexandra has helped develop our leadership programmes and attracted editors and managers from across the world” says Alan Rusbridger, Chair of the RISJ Steering Committee. “The enthusiastic response to these programs is a testimony to Alexandra’s commitment and we are glad she will continue to have an association with the Reuters Institute” says RISJ Director Rasmus Kleis Nielsen.

Alexandra had joined the Institute in July 2017 as Director of Strategic Development to build up industry-focused programmes and broaden the institute’s international reach. In particular she developed and led on the “Oxford Perspectives” series of leadership programmes including “Leading Newsroom Change” and “Future Leaders in News” – two open-application programmes for newsroom leaders and senior journalists that have brought senior editors, managers and potential media leaders to Oxford to exchange experiences, network, and learn from research.

Dr. Borchardt has also represented the Institute at more than a dozen international conferences and in the Council of Europe’s Committee on Quality Journalism in the Digital Age where she will continue to serve as vice chair. She also led on studies on European Brexit coverage and played a leading part in a project on talent and diversity in journalism (a topic particularly close to her heart) that will be published in July.

Alexandra will move back to Germany to pursue new ventures in journalism and media leadership development. She says: “It has been a great pleasure to work with such a brilliant and dedicated team for the future of quality journalism at this great University. Building on the trust of media leaders from some of the best newsrooms of the world has been an honour. I look forward to maintaining a lasting relationship with the Institute.”
