Applications open for Fellowship opportunities

Are you a mid-career journalist working in Lebanon, Palestine, Syria or Hong Kong? We’ve opened applications for two of our fellowships – the Asfari Fellowship and the Lion Rock Spirit Fellowship. The Asfari Fellowship is sponsored by the Asfari Foundation and gives a unique opportunity for one journalist from Lebanon, Palestine or Syria to benefit from a fully funded fellowship at the University of Oxford. The candidate should ideally be based in the Levant region or Egypt or Turkey and intend to work there upon the completion of the Fellowship. All Institute and University/College fees will be paid by the Fellowship, and the fellow will also receive their travel costs and a modest stipend to cover housing and living expenses. The Lion Rock Spirit Fellowship, supported by Sharon Cheung, enables one Hong Kong journalist per year to have the opportunity to join the Journalism Fellowship Programme. It’s open to all Hong Kong based journalists with a minimum of five years’ experience, regardless of their age or political affiliation. The Lion Rock Spirit Fellow will spend two terms (six months) in Oxford in the academic year 2016-17, where they’ll join a diverse group of journalists from other parts of the world. All Institute and University/College fees will be paid by the Lion Rock Spirit Fellowship, and the fellow will also receive their travel costs and a modest stipend to cover housing and living expenses. Journalist Fellows attend regular seminars and lectures relating to journalism and undertake a research project on a topic of their choice, leading to the completion of a 6000-8,000 word paper. They are encouraged to attend other academic and social events at Oxford University.
