RISJ Appoints new Director of Strategic Development

13 Feb 2017

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Alexandra Borchardt as the RISJ’s Director of Strategic Development. She will start in July this year.

Borchardt joins us in this newly created role, which will see her developing our strategy for connecting the worlds of journalism research, policy and practice. She is currently managing editor of Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ), Germany’s leading quality daily.

Alexandra has been with SZ for eleven years, working across the politics and business sections with her reporting focused on democracy and the internet, the future of work and gender issues. She teaches ‘Leadership in the 21st Century’ at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and also lectures on digitisation and the media. Before joining SZ she worked for Financial Times Deutschland and the German Press Agency, DPA. She is also editor of Plan W, a quarterly magazine for women and business, which she launched in 2015 and holds a PhD in Political Science from Tulane University.

Alan Rusbridger, Chair of the Reuters Institute Steering Committee said:

“I am delighted that we have attracted such a distinguished journalist to the Institute. Alexandra’s knowledge, insight and experience in journalism and newsroom management will be great assets as we seek to build stronger connections with the global news industry. I, along with RISJ Director, David Levy, and all those at the Reuters Institute, really look forward to welcoming her to Oxford and working with her”
