Dr Brian Rotheray

23 Sep 2013

It is with great sadness that we have learned about the death of our colleague and former Reuters Institute post-doctoral fellow Dr Brian Rotheray. Brian worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Reuters Institute from January until May 2010. He played a key role in the Reuters Institute project on 'International News in Africa, India and Pakistan: Provision, Consumption and Trust in a Rapidly Changing Broadcasting Environment'. In charge of the first phase of the project, Brian significantly shaped the overall project’s structure and outcome. His work on the project resulted in the widely read Reuters Institute Working Paper 'Good News from a Far Country? Changes in international broadcast news supply in Africa and South Asia' and a journal article in the International Journal of Digital Television.Brian's wealth of experience and knowledge about international broadcasting and its history, as well as his research excellence earned him respect in the academic community and beyond, and his work will continue to have a lasting impact. As a team member, colleague and collaborator, Brian's congenial style and kindness endeared him to everyone and he was always ready to share his deep knowledge and experience with colleagues. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with Brian’s wife Ewa, son Thomas and his family and friends at this time. (Anne Geniets 21 September 2013)
