Proposition: "Journalism coarsens, simplifies and distorts politics (and the new media won't be any better)"

Hrvoje Kresic agrees that the proposition holds true in Croatian media. He says that new journalism will not be any better because a majority of organizations are owned and operated by the last generation of poorly postured reporters. The few independent reporters that exist do not demonstrate strong journalistic integrity; most do not substantiate their claims with evidence. The country's five-year recession has resulted in a reduction of news offices and journalists. This decline is made worse by the myopic vision of newspaper owners in Croatia. They are typically young, affluent businessmen who are not interested in or informed of the country's important social and economic affairs.
