The Trust Factor – RISJ Director of Research speaks in Chennai

25 Oct 2017

October 23 and 24, RISJ Director of Research Rasmus Kleis Nielsen spoke at the 2017 annual conference of the Organization of News Ombudsmen (ONO) in Chennai, India. He argued news media across the world face a combination of different challenges, including the move to mobile media, the rise of platforms, and crisis of confidence in many countries, but also underlined that people continue to turn to trusted news brands for information about important public affairs.

His presentation drew on recent RISJ research on trust in media and audience perspectives on fake news at an event attended by ombudsmen, readers’ editors, and other senior figures from many leading news organizations including the ABC, Ashahi Shimbun, the BBC, the Nepali Times, NDTV, Scroll and many other organizations from Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America.

The local organizer was RISJ Journalism Fellow alumni A.S. Panneerselvan. The conference was sponsored by The Hindu and opened by N. Ram, Chairman of Kasturi & Sons Limited which owns the Hindu Group of publications.
