Plenary: Moral Maze - Witness: Daniel Ovidiu Popica (Fellow, Romania)

20 Sep 2013

Proposition: "Journalism coarsens, simplifies and distorts politics (and the new media won't be any better)"

Daniel Ovidiu Popica was formerly a journalist in Romania. He is now a media consultant. Popica began by echoing Jacomella's sentiment, affirming the discord between the majority of conference attendees who are concerned with revenues and moral questions while his country's media is preoccupied with basic attempts to survive. Romania's advertising market is shrinking, many jobs are being cut, several titles have recently disappeared, and there are only six television stations in the country, most of which produce loud, vacuous noises. Most journalists do not pursue relevant political stories.
