Evan Davis podcast now online – ‘Adversarial journalism: seeing it from both sides’

If you missed Evan Davis delivering the Philip Geddes Memorial Lecture on 14 March, it is now available to enjoy online, either on the St Edmund Hall YouTube channel or via the University’s iTunesU.Evan gave a very engaging lecture on the subject of ‘Adversarial journalism: seeing it from both sides’. He presented a balanced, and at times humorous, argument that explored both the benefits and disadvantages of this style of journalism. He made very effective use of examples from his own work, particularly on Radio 4’s ‘The Bottom Line’ and the ‘Today’ programme, which he used to illustrate two contrasting journalistic approaches. The lecture is well worth a listen, and offers a thought-provoking exploration of the current trends in our media. The Geddes Lecture is named after Philip Geddes, an alumnus of St Edmund Hall and a journalist of considerable promise. In December 1983, aged 24, he went to investigate a potential story in Harrods, Knightsbridge, and was tragically killed by the blast from a bomb planted by the IRA.
