Petri Jauhiainen

Petri Jauhiainen is a managing editor at the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation (Yle) News and is a journalist fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of journalism at Oxford University for the academic year 2014 – 2015.

Petri currently works as a managing editor for Yle News in Helsinki, Finland. Petri is in charge of national television and radio broadcasts including special broadcasts and online content in English, Russian and Finnish Sign Language. Petri is especially interested in how to combine broadcast news with social media channels for more effective news communication.

Petri has worked in journalism for more than 20 years. His career began during his University studies with a stint as a part-time reporter with a regional newspaper and as a radio host for a local radio station.  After completing his studies he worked as a reporter with Helsingin Sanomat, the largest circulation newspaper the Nordics.

Petri began his career at Yle in 1992 as an economic reporter for the national daily television news broadcast. Since then he has served in many positions, including political correspondent for TV news, breakfast TV producer and host, current affairs program presenter and duty editor for radio and television. He took on his current assignment in 2011.

He holds a Master of Arts degree (journalism major) and a Master of Education degree from the University of Jyväskylä.  He has also studied audiovisual journalism at the University of Art and Design, Helsinki.
