Journalist Fellows' Papers

Serving Readers in a Fractured Society: A study of South African newspapers, with comparisons drawn with newspapers in the Balkans

Reuters Institute Fellow's Paper

This research analyses at the climate of transformation after minority rule, the tensions created whenever a society has a market-dominant minority, the complexion of the debate in the public sphere, ‘loyalty’ and ‘disloyalty’ in reporting, the strident standoff over HIV/Aids and Zimbabwe, and the emergence of the disturbing phenomenon of official cavalcades intimidating motorists on the country's highways, and how some of these issues have played themselves out in the press.

As with all Fellows’ research papers, any opinions expressed are those of the author and not of the Institute.
