Micheline Tobia

Co-founder and editor, Mashallah News

Micheline Tobia is the co-founder and editor of Mashallah News, a collaborative online platform covering the Arab world, Turkey and Iran. It was created in 2010 out of frustration with the sensationalised coverage of the region. The website deals with culture, urban and social issues, human rights, and the life of interesting people found in the cities covered, with articles written in English, French, Arabic and Turkish. Since its launch, Mashallah News has been able to build a network of over 130 contributors from all around the region.

In 2014, they published their first book, Beirut Re-Collected, made available in both English and French, with 20 forgotten stories written by 19 different contributors. Micheline was the project coordinator and represented the collective, promoting the book in the media, at conferences, book fairs and book signings.

Micheline grew up in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and lived there for 17 years. She is currently based in Beirut, travelling often, constantly striving to discover new things. She has a great passion for the Arab world’s underground culture, its urban issues and activist community.

Micheline earned a BA and MA in Political Science from the American University of Beirut.
